Sr. Social Protection Economist
The World Banks Social Protection work in Pakistan has
expanded significantly during the recent years. The Bank is
supporting the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)the
flagship social safety net program of the government
providing targeted social assistance to the poor and
vulnerable population.
To accompany the establishment of a national social
protection system the Bank team has also developed a
strong economic and sector work program that requires
intensive work and further development. This includes
evaluation design and elaboration of background studies on
Social Protection based on abundant data available on
program beneficiaries. It also includes Public Sector
Expenditure reviews for social protection expenditures,
contributions to poverty analysis as well as studies on
regional and Human Development related topics.
Considering the requirements of the growing Social
Protection portfolio, the South Asia Social Protection Unit
intends to hire a Senior Social Protection Economist with the
relevant background and professional experience to be
based in Islamabad.
The successful candidate should have:
. An advanced degree in economics; PhD in Economics
would be preferred,
. Minimum of eight years of relevant experience, preferably
in poverty, social safety nets, social insurance, and labor
market;
. Experience in fiscal/expenditure review, in Pakistan
preferred.
. Strong organizational, research, and oral presentation
skills in English and Urdu.
. Willingness to travel to other countries in the South Asia
region.
